If only the real Coheed dude had believed and cleaned his act up halfway between The Black Rainbow and Afterman, he wouldnt have been tripping when This single came out about him. 😒

Uuuh... What's with all the awesome bands hiring deaf people to remaster/remix their epic songs, RUINING them, then being deaf enough themselves to approve it? As a fan of the original release, I couldn't listen to this for a full minute at first (though I did come back & force myself to). This version's so shallow, no depth & little energy (other than the vocals being given extra emphasis), & the bass has been DECIMATED into almost nothing. :( The only thing this one has going for it is higher digital quality & clearer vocals. The primary & harmony vocals had their focus swapped (so the the emphasis goes on the mid-range rather than the highs in the refrain), which isn't necessarily bad, but it changes the energy to be less intense. But what IS bad is how this one got all the dynamics compressed out of it, so it's more flattened. Especially obvious when the intro vocals (despite it being a soft part of the song) seem loud cuz they're isolated & DC'ed, then the more music is added, the vocals then get quieter cuz they have to share the noise ceiling (when sound is pushed up against the upper limit, there's nowhere else for it to go when more is added, so it gets smothered). Which makes it just a thick amorphous blob of noise when it gets to the more "intense" parts. Which makes them no longer feel intense as a result. :( Music should shift between quieter & louder, as well as thinner & thicker. This one, like so many where Dynamic Compression is over-abused, keeps it all the same loudness, & only the thickness changes. Another tragic victim of the Loudness War. Meanwhile, the original might peak a little in the refrains (unless it's just my speakers being wonky), the sibilants are a just a tad hyper-isolated, & of course on YT the older official upload has digital compression artifacts from the old tech not being as efficient for streaming at the time. But at least that version of the song itself has appropriate variations of power between thinner & thicker parts. It DOES have room for improvement in that regard, but it's absolutely got more texture & life to it than this one. The original has POWER, & that makes it WAY better, IMO. The whole thing that hooked me with this song WAS the power. Draining that in this new version was a BIG mistake. I wish they'd have just reuploaded the original in higher quality. :(

The chorus to this song is absolutely amazing, your talent for making these big, anthemic pop choruses is easily the best thing about this album.

I love this. But I'm an 80's kid. I would love for them to maybe release a covers album with the original artist and Coheeds vibe. ❤

This album killed so hard. I legit think I can't love these guys anymore and they just double dick down on it everytime. The story, the concept, the universe... ALL of it.

The love I gave that you never took because you loved elsewhere. It made me dark. This Darkside of me. How can he make the thoughts I have into music.

Coheed has always had some obscure videos, but that has always just solidified who they are to me as artists. They aren’t trying to be cookie cutter in any way and they will always (so far at least) stand by their artistic decisions and directions regardless of how people feel about it. They could be another Fall Out Boy, Panic At The Disco, My Chemical Romance, or any other band with a 2-3 album lifespan before they sold out

Was so pumped as soon as I realized the "visualizer" was just clips from The Man Who Laughs 😍 I finally made myself watch the film last year and it's such a heartbreaking story 😭 the sound of Deranged fit the feeling pretty well imo, and it was super clever of them to use this for the video, considering both the song and the films' connections to the Joker 😌

This version gives me fucking chills every single time I hear it. Like, I LOVE Comatose and the other version of this and Liars Club, but these acoustic versions Disappearing Act and Liars Club might just be two of the greatest Coheed songs. Period. 🥹🙌
